Vince

Part of the standard training in the Landis Royal Army is the traditional first solo mission for new recruits. Typically, it's a simple mission; scout out some area, take a message somewhere, patrol an uneventful area of the kingdom, that sort. For this mission, one of the army's supervisors are called to watch over the recruits. In the army, they CLAIM it's so that they can see how well the recruit does his or her job, but since the missions are so simple, everyone knows they're really there to prevent the recruit from abandoning the army.

Vince was one of these supervisors. He was the best in Landis, too; out of the hundreds of soldiers he watched over, not a single one managed to successfully ditch him to abandon the army. He put an awful lot of pride in that, seeing how his enitire reputation was built around that fact...

However, when he was watching over Matthew on his first mission after being drafted into the army, a rockslide trapped Matt and Alex in a cave with a dragon in it. Vince assumed not only that Matt was dead, but that he also allowed a civilian to die with him. This would not only ruin his reputation, but would also bring rather harsh punishments for allowing an innocent civilian to die in normal military practices. Vince's spirit was shattered. He abandoned the army himself before Matt and Alex got out of the cave.

Since then, he's been hiding in Terakol. A paranoid wreck, he spends his days lamenting about the life he'll never have back again while trying to avoid anyone from Castle Landis who'd know him. It didn't help his mental well-being to learn that Matt and Alex were still alive, so he threw his life away for nothing...

First appearance: July 25, 2002 (Storyline: "Draft vs. Dragon")
