Quertia

Witches and warlocks (Female and male label for the same category of mage) have always been curious folk. Nobody, not even the witches or warlocks in question, quite understands why the mastery of magics involving potions, elixers, powders, etc. drive these mages into seclusion. Regardless, they often choose to live in inhospitable locales away from civilization.

It should come to no suprise, then, that the swamps that make up the majority of the eastern border of Landis is home to at least one or two witches. One of them is Quertia. Quertia, an old, hunched-over woman who wants little more than peace and quiet from the bothersome fools of civilized society, lives deep in the swamps, practicing potions on occasion. She is a rather stubborn hag who rarely concedes defeat to anybody or anything, anywhere.

Quertia is fairly paranoid about her home and equipment in the swamp, especially her small growth of Raikke mushrooms. This has made her far more willing to act first and think later in regards to protecting her precious supplies. Matt and Alex found this out the hard way as they tried to leave the swamp with Raikkes gathered from near Castle Breznial.

First appearance: September 23, 2002 (Storyline: "Swamp Muck Fever!", within "Magic Mushrooms")
